Puppy mill is a term most commonly used to describe a place that breeds dogs in terrible conditions. These dogs are bred too early and too often. Mothers are kept from the time they are born to the time they die within the confines of a metal crate. They are seen only as puppy making machines: often being killed or “discarded” once they no longer can produce.
Pups are shiped most often by truck via a puppy broker to your local neighborhood pet store. The trip may encompase thousands of miles, and many pups do not make it to the store alive.
Once at the store, pups are sold top dollar as purebred, akc registered, and “healthy”. Unknowing buyers find later that these pups are disease ridden, including inhereted diseases that show once the pup is an adult, costing the owner hundreds in vet bills and much heart ache. Please do not become one of these unfortunate buyers, for buying a pet store pup supports puppy mills, and therefore supports the breeding and future torment of more of these dogs.
